I had to learn how to feel high.
I am a baby boomer. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, when NYC was scaryโand not ironically!
In the mid โ70s, when I began experimenting with marijuana, I had no idea what being high felt like.
Until I took some acid. My boyfriend, all those years ago, wanted to try it with meโฆ
I took that little purple pill.
It took maybe 40 minutes to kick in, but at first I couldnโt stop smiling. Then I couldnโt stop laughing.
Time was weird. Touch was intense. My mouth felt dry, and smells did not make sense to me, but something in me said, โJust go with it.โ
We listened to Gordon Lightfoot and The Moody Blues. Incredible music. Soon, I could see the patterns in a wooden door, xylem and phloem, moving up and down with the music.
We watched an older movie on TV, and every scene was like dรฉja vu. And I had seen that movie a long time agoโฆ back when it came out in 1964, โThe Train,โ with Burt Lancaster.
This movie was nowhere in my consciousness, but watching while tripping, I knew nanoseconds in advance what was going to happen next.
Ooh, what a feeling!
I loved it even though it was scary. Wow! Thatโs what being high feels like!
And the next day, even though I felt like my brain had been trampled by a military parade, I knew Iโd experience this again and again.
Denver, the Mile High Cityโฆ
Around the end of April, beginning of May, we drove to Denver to visit with family, and one of the things we did was visit The International Church of Cannabis, home to the BEYOND Light Show.
It was a family-friendly venue. The guided meditation and light show highlighted how there are many ways to be spiritual.
There is NO SINGLE TRUTH about religion or God.
Hereโs a short video of how they created the ceiling in the Chapel.
Anyway, that wasnโt the only consciousness-expanding place we visited in Denver. We also spent an afternoon at Meow Wolf.
The story of Meow Wolfโฆ was not very clear, but what a story it tells: What happens when worlds converge, creating new forms of life, new ways of using machinery, making music, new ways to live with other beingsโฆ
We didnโt get the enhanced tickets that would have given us more of the story behind the design of Meow Wolf. But you could get clues from watching some videos:
a peopleโs world is covered in icy shardsโฆ
Or visiting a room of books, where the books ARE the walls, the furnitureโฆ and an explorerโs log, left open on the table, might tell you moreโฆ

I got the sense that there was a sense of loss of the cultures, everything within them was gone, and this new world, The Convergence, was created. But despite the sense of loss, you also feel that life goes on, even if it goes on a little weird and different from what you are used to.
If youโve been to Meow World, and you can explain it better, please, please do!

Iโm still getting used to being back! Iโve got drafts of posts backed up that I hope to get out in the next few weeks.
Itโs been raining a lot where I am, and today is the first day in a while the sunโs been out! This song pretty much says it for me:
Oh man! I'm so jealous you got to go to Meow Wolf. I've always wanted to see it. Thanks for sharing your pics. They added a lot to the writing--helped make everything so vivid :)
I was very familiar with purple microdot, circa 1970. If you're interested, I posted "My recreational drug life", think you'll have a laugh.
