Happy May!
The Poll Results and a little baseball.
Good morning, happy waning days of April. Hello to the sunny, breezy days of May!
First the Poll: 80% of readers want to read everything. Could be sad, angry, triggering. Cool. I’ll give a warning if it’s triggering.
I’ll also warn you in the headlines that if there will be baseball. 20% did not want to hear anything about baseball.
I’m sad to hear you don’t want to read about baseball.
Ten years ago, when the Royals were in the playoffs for the first time in 29 years, it transformed Kansas City.
But it was because of the excitement, and then because the Royals lost the World Series in 2014, that I felt like the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz:
Yes. Broken-hearted, and not a little masochistic, I began to learn about baseball, and I had to accept that I’d become a fan.
I think because the season is 162 games at least, you can get your hopes up and your heart broken repeatedly. There are highs and lows in every game.
I can’t rattle off stats. I can’t place every player’s name with games. I’m not that kind of fan.
But I think keeping a memory of these things is a way to deal with your emotional reactions to the games. For instance, I have a very sweet memory of when Salvador Perez hit his first major league Grand Slam. I know the date and the circumstances because I was there. It was one of the most exciting things I’d ever seen in my life.
Salvy hit that Grand Slam on June 21st, 2017. That’s all the baseball for today.
Coming up next I will probably have a Seal of Zeal announcement.
Then, Mothers' Day.
