First, an announcement: You reply. I donate.
A couple of people replied and I donated to Uzazi Village in their honor.
Thank you, Rosemarie R. and Susan S.!!!! Hugs and kisses, balloons, and much love!
Other Stuff: Nazis
I really wish there were no Nazis on Substack (or anywhere).
About 250 Substackers— some of whom I follow— wrote an open letter to the founders/ corporate heads of Substack to try to have Nazi content removed or moderated. And to make people aware of the way Substack promotes and profits from these publications.
The founders/heads of Substack defended their promoting and profiting as a First Amendment Issue.
But it’s not exactly that, is it?
The First Amendment says that Congress cannot abridge the freedom of speech or press. Substack is not Congress. Substack is a business and can make its own decisions about how to run their business profitably.
Some writers are leaving.
I am not planning to leave. Not for a while, anyway. Substack is an easy way to connect with readers. And to read other people I like to read: Dawn Downey, Laurie Stone, Lee Judge, David Lesky, and Jillian Enright, to name a few.
But that’s just a few. I read a lot of Substacks.
You’ll notice I have not put Craig Calcaterra on that list. That’s because Craig has moved to another platform called Beehiiv. I’ll read him on Beehiiv. I’ll look migrating my newsletter there, but I also think it is not easy to separate yourself from all the world's influences. You can try, but what if Beehiiv is suddenly full of some other group you disapprove of?
Fits and Starts
I’m sorry to be late with issue (should have come out last week), but I’m adjusting to a new schedule with new meetings and tools. I’ll write about them in a short newsletter next week.
Over the weekend, the temperatures dropped to below freezing, well below freezing. And my car refused to start. That’s never been a problem before. And refused and refused.
A tow truck came and the tow-er jump-started my car. With a brand new battery installed, it feels miraculous.
All better now.
Except the snow. It started snowing again.
But I will focus on the positive:
Starfish and Coffee!
This has been one of my earworms this weekend:
A prince hit i never knew!
